Informing Choices Present - Call Jane (2022)

Thu 22 Oct 2026 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM BST Dance Addiction Studios, Belfast, BT4 1JA

As part of Open Conversations: Film, Rights & Cultural Change, Informing Choices invites you to a special screening of Call Jane, followed by a conversation exploring abortion, access, choice and the experiences of people seeking abortion care.

Call Jane follows a young woman in 1960s America who, after discovering she needs an abortion, becomes involved with a group of women providing access to safe abortion care at a time when it was illegal. The film explores what happens when people are denied access to the healthcare they need, and the role that information, support and collective action can play in creating change.

The screening takes place on 22 October, marking the anniversary of the decriminalisation of abortion in Northern Ireland. Following the film, we’ll be joined by Dr Laura McLaughlin, Clinical Lead for the Regional Surgical Abortion Care Service, for a conversation exploring some of the themes raised in the film and the realities of abortion care in Northern Ireland today.
