Áine taught at Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig from 1987 to 2013. During that period, she regularly organised student trips to art galleries in Cork and Dublin as well abroad. These included Rome, Florence and Amsterdam as well as numerous trips to Paris and London. Awarded the School Teacher Fellowship in 2000 she undertook a self-directed research project during which time she lived in Trinity College College Dublin. She worked closely and was guided by the Art History Department. For many years she worked as part of a team involved in teacher upskilling with the Professional Development Service for Teachers. This involved presentations and workshops for teachers and students all over the country.
As a practising artist Áine has had several exhibitions of both painting and batik.
For What is Past was held in the annex of the City Hall in Cork in 2015. The work was based on old photographs taken on Patrick Street from 1940 to 1960 and the people of the past were given colour and life in these ‘translations’ to paintings.
She is the author of several books. Art History Revision notes was published in 1996 and since then she has collaborated on several Art History text-books with Aidan O Sullivan.
New Appreciating Art was published in February 2021 by Gill Education to support the recent implementation of new leaving cert art syllabus for senior cycle.
In 2017 Áine began on a series of talks on well-known artworks in the Triskel Art Centre in Cork. These continued until the centre closed in 2020 due to Covid.
