Victor Richardson was born in Belfast in 1952, and moved to Cork in 1974. He has exhibited widely in Ireland, Britain and the U.S.A. He has adopted elements of Impressionism and Pointillism to develop his own distinctive style which manifests a fresh and vivid approach to traditional imagery. He will give a talk on his life and works. This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand about the dramatic ups and downs that come when an artist chooses to walk through any door that is opened to one.
“My world is not as it truly is, but how it ought to be. Perhaps I try to speak not so much to the mind, but to the heart, for surely reflection and beauty have more to do with sensitivity than with intelligence.” Victor Richardson
Hilary Pyle from the Irish Times refers to the movement Richardson injects into every part of a painting, right down to the blades of grass. She continues: “Of course, his command of colour, in all its levels of subtlety, is his most effective tool. This is where he comes into the ambit of Bonnard; because colour expresses everything of mood and its variations…making an expected subject unexpected, vivacious and personally loved.
