Learn about our regional forests and the forces that shape them as you explore Innisfree’s woodlands during an interpretive walk led by Dr. Charles Canham. A forest ecologist and senior scientist, emeritus at the Cary Institute of Ecosystems Studies, Dr. Canham has studied the ecology of eastern forests for over 40 years. He is the author of Forests Adrift: Currents Shaping the Future of Northeastern Trees (Yale University Press, 2020) on which he will draw for this walk. While Dr. Canham observes negative impacts from climate change, pests and pathogens, air pollution, and other threats, he has found Northeastern forests to be remarkably resilient.
This will be a moderate walk (under 2 miles); sensible walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing are encouraged.
Because the group size is somewhat limited, registration is required. This program is the same price as garden admission which it includes. That means that if you qualify for free admission, this walk is free, too. You just need to sign up.
