Event Description

The IEP Summit is an exciting industry event for IEP Members and senior colleagues from the Employability sector to be held at the historic and culturally significant RSA House in London.

Presenting an opportunity for networking, discussion and sharing of good practice, the IEP Summit is designed to provide challenging content that looks to the future of the profession bringing senior people together for both formal seminars and informal conversation and networking.

Building on our four-year success we look forward to once again welcoming senior professionals from public employment services, major providers, supply chain partners and other opinion-formers across the sector both in person and online to maximise participation from our international colleagues and partners.

The IEP Summit is a unique opportunity for senior leaders and key industry figures, who are responsible for driving the sector's strategic agenda, to come together in one space. It provides a platform to learn from and debate with colleagues offering perceptions, insights and solutions to some of the challenges and priorities facing the employability sector now and in the future.

We are creating a robust and dynamic sector voice to serve both practitioners and customers better and this is a great opportunity to have your say, build new business opportunities, partner with different people and develop ‘what works’.

The Summit is an opportunity for anyone who is passionate about employability services, policy, strategy and what they mean not just for our sector but to the wider world.

Itinerary

10-10:30am - Coffee, Pastries and Registration (The Vaults)

10:30-10:35am - Welcome from David Gallagher FIEP, CEO, NCFE (Great Room)

10:35 -11:25 - Seminar 1 - Aiming high: how we can achieve an 80% employment rate together

Learning and Work Institute have argued for an 80% employment rate ambition for the UK, the highest in the G7. How can we achieve this in a tough economic climate? What partnerships between work, skills and health, between national and local government, and with employers do we need?

Speaker - Stephen Evans - Chief Executive at Learning and Work Institute

Panellists:

Brian Bell MBA FIEP - Chief Executive Officer, Fedcap Employment

Claudine Adeyemi-Adams FIEP - Founder and CEO, Earlybird

Gill Holmes FIEP OBE - Consultant

11:25-11:45am - Refreshments and Networking (The Vaults)

11:45 - 12:40pm - Seminar 2 The UK labour market since the pandemic

The UK "jobs miracle" is no more - or rather it has taken quite a different shape, with much of the progress of the 2010s on employment rates reversed by a rise in those out of work for health reasons - mostly mental health. Meanwhile, the slack has been taken up by a very large increase in the number of new entrants from abroad; a trend which may now be choked off by policy. I will discuss these trends and what it might mean for labour market policy in the next Parliament.

Speaker - Professor Jonathan Portes -Professor of Economics and Public Policy at King’s College London

Panellists:

Jonathan Hart-Smith, CEO, Business Leader, Investor and Non-Executive Director IEP

Lorenzo Hall FIEP, Managing Director, Transform & Achieve

David Imber FIEP, Principal, Good Employability Company and Head of the Centre for Employability Excellence

12:40-13:40pm - Lunch and Networking sponsored by The Digital College (The Vaults)

13:40-14:35pm - Seminar 3 Building people capability for the future

Like other industries, employment services face a number of systemic challenges. How can leaders build a capable and sustainable workforce? How can practitioners balance the challenges posed by labour market conditions, digitalisation, and the constraints of regulatory regimes? As labour market experts, employability practitioners are in a unique position to respond to such challenges, for the benefit of their clients, employers, their organisations and wider society. Drawing on international evidence, including current research on good work and job quality, the session will provide attendees with learning for their organisational practices to enhance workforce strategy and service capability.

Speaker - Professor Jo Ingold FIEP, FRSA, FHEA, CAHR, Professor of Business, Peter Faber Business School, Australian Catholic University

Panellists -
Stuart Duffey FIEP, Managing Director, Coyne Recruitment
Bjorn Elmqvist FIEP, Managing Partner, Werket AB
Diane Vernon MBE FIEP, Founder and CEO, EmployabilityUK

14:35-14:55pm - Refreshments and Networking (The Vaults)

14:55-15:50pm - Seminar 4 The Future of Employment Support - findings and recommendations of the IES Commission

IES Director, Tony Wilson FIEP sets out the findings and recommendations of the IES Commission on the future of employment support. IEP Summit delegates will hear about the Commission’s work and get insights into the thinking behind its proposals. There will be a chance to hear what the final report is likely to say; and to comment on what that might mean for the employability sector.
