Resisting Containers: Queer Indigenous Practice and Relationality Across the Public Imaginary
Join Professor Sandy O’Sullivan, Professor of Critical Indigenous Studies: anti-colonial gender studies, queerness and museum studies and IPCS-Writer-in-Residence Ellen van Neerven in conversation about the ways in which creativity is being used to challenge the colonial project of gender, sexuality and everything else.

Sandy O’Sullivan (they/them) is a Wiradjuri transgender/non-binary Professor of Critical Indigenous Studies at Macquarie University. They were a 2020-2025 ARC Future Fellow, with a project titled Saving Lives: Mapping the influence of Indigenous LGBTIQ+ creative artists. In 2027 they join UQ as Professor of Museum Studies.

Ellen van Neerven (EvN/they/them) is a writer, editor and educator of Mununjali Yugambeh and Dutch heritage. Their books include Heat and Light, Comfort Food, Throat, Personal Score and Ruby’s Web, and their play swim (Griffin Theatre Company) premiered on Gadigal land and Yugambeh land in 2024.
