What does it take to be a champion? 

Join the IF and Gates Cambridge to hear from Boat Race winner and elite rower Jenna Armstrong in conversation with Olympian Cath Bishop as they discuss rowing, leadership, and the challenges of competing in elite sport.

After the event, Gates Cambridge would be delighted to invite all attendees to a drinks reception. 

About the speakers

Jenna Armstrong is a Jesuan, Gates Cambridge Scholar, former CUBC Women’s President, and a double winner of the Boat Race, once as captain. She is currently pursuing a PhD focused on the effects of high altitudes on placental function in Bolivian women. Initially a competitive skier, Jenna transitioned to rowing during her time at Bates College in the United States. After completing her PhD, she will return to Duke University to finish her medical training as part of the MD/PhD pathway.

Cath Bishop is a double Boat Race Blues rower for Cambridge and triple Olympian, who also had a career as a diplomat in the Foreign Office and now works as a leadership and culture expert across business, sport and education. Cath competed in three Olympic Games, winning World Championship gold and an Olympic silver. As a diplomat, she specialised in conflict issues with postings to Bosnia and Iraq. Cath is also the author of The Long Win, exploring new ways of defining success, and writes a monthly column on topics of culture in sport for The Guardian. Cath is an Honorary Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta and Trustee for British Rowing’s charitable foundation, Love Rowing.
