All You Can Seal: Making Inflatables with a 3D Printer

Tue Jul 14, 2026 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM InterAccess, 32 Lisgar Street, Toronto, ON, M6J 0C7

Your 3D printer can do something it was never designed to do — and this workshop will show you how.

All You Can Seal teaches participants how to repurpose a Bambu FDM printer into a precision CNC heat-sealing machine for ultra-thin TPU film, producing custom-shaped inflatable structures without additional equipment or hardware modification.Bambu printers are widely owned but their closed software ecosystem restricts direct G-code access — this workshop cracks that open with a simple workaround and a custom Python script that handles the technical heavy lifting automatically, reducing the technical barrier to a single drag-and-drop step. If you already own a Bambu printer, you already have a CNC heat-sealer. Participants leave with a working inflatable of their own design.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE

No prior fabrication or coding experience required. Basic computer literacy is sufficient.

WORKSHOP REQUIREMENTS

Please bring a laptop (Mac or Windows) with the following free software installed before the workshop:

  • Bambu Studio (free at bambulab.com)

  • TinkerCAD (free, browser-based, no download needed)

Participants with vector design experience may use Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape (free) to design their own shape. Pre-made SVG templates will be provided for those without design backgrounds.

Participants who own a Bambu Lab printer are warmly encouraged to bring it.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Hi, I'm Thea — a designer, researcher, and maker based in Toronto, working at the blurred edge of fashion and wearable technology.

My practice lives at the intersection of soft robotics, wearable technology, and the body. I work to make technology invisible, so that what becomes visible is the body itself : its rhythms, pressures, and involuntary signals rendered as morphological change in soft materials. I'm interested in wearables that feel like garments rather than gadgets, and that respond to the wearer rather than display them to others.

Trained in haute couture shoemaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and recently completing my Master of Design in Digital Futures at OCAD University, I bring a craft-first sensibility to experimental fabrication — including the heat-sealing method at the heart of this workshop.
