Summer Concert V: Schumann: Two Faces of a Master

We close our Silver Anniversary season where the heart of it has always been: with Schumann. Kreisleriana is among his most searching works for solo piano: restless, introspective, mercurial, deeply personal. The Piano Quartet that follows brings four voices into generous, song-like conversation, Schumann at his most outward-looking and warmly communicative. Together they offer something close to a complete portrait of the composer, and, we hope, a fitting close to a season built around the idea that music is most alive when it is most human. Lun Jiang and Pegsoon Whang, who opened the series' twenty-fifth season in July, return for the closing night as they have returned for every season of Intermezzo since the very beginning. Vedrana Subotić, who co-founded this series twenty-five years ago, opens and closes it as Music Director. Thank you for twenty-five years. We could not have done any of this without you.
