Are you interested or involved in research on Community Development? Join us for the next IACD Global Community Development Researchers' Forum Meeting on 16 September 2024. With a talk and discussion on "Trust and Decolonizing Research", presented by Firoze Alam, PhD Student, Rural Studies, University of Guelph, Canada. We look forward to seeing you then!

Short speaker bio:
Firoze Alam is a PhD student in the Rural Studies program at the University of Guelph. His journey, rooted in a small agrarian village in Bangladesh, reflects the intersection of lived experience and scholarly pursuit. As the first among 14 siblings to attend university, he brings a unique lens as a first-generation academic researcher. Firoze completed a master’s in development studies in Bangladesh and a Master's in Social Justice and Equity Studies in Canada, at the University of Brock where his thesis examined "epistemic violence in postcolonial contexts." With more than two decades of experience as an educator and community organizer in Bangladesh, his work is driven by a strong commitment to social justice and equity. His PhD research explores Indigenous-settler trust, solidarity, food sovereignty, and the impact of power dynamics on knowledge systems, aiming to challenge colonial narratives and advocate for transformative solidarity that centers Indigenous resurgence and relational sovereignty in both research and policy frameworks.
