As climate hazards intensify, transport infrastructure faces growing risks that threaten economic stability, connectivity, and urban resilience. This session will explore how infrastructure stakeholders can accelerate the adoption of safe, sustainable and climate-resilient transport standards and practices worldwide.
As part of London Climate Action Week, the session will bring together city leaders and infrastructure planners to discuss how policy frameworks, risk-informed decision-making, and collaborative finance mechanisms can support more climate-resilient transport networks, boost last-mile connectivity and advance system-wide investment decision-making for adaptation. It will focus on challenges and opportunities for London transport, and compare them to those of other cities.
It will draw upon the Plan to Accelerate Implementation of Resilient and Adaptive Transport Infrastructure, a Global Climate Action Agenda initiative led by ICSI, aimed at providing a structured, collaborative pathway to operationalise resilience through policy reform, financing mechanisms, and capacity building across the infrastructure lifecycle.
The session will spotlight solutions that are just, inclusive and ecologically sound. By fostering stronger standards and knowledge sharing, the discussion will highlight how resilient and adaptive transport systems can safeguard socioeconomic development while reducing vulnerability to climate hazards.
The event will also introduce ICSI’s forthcoming Climate Resilient Infrastructure Report on Transport, which will launch at COP31.
