This event is the first of a series of webinars from our Special Interest Group:
Artists, designers, makers and educators have long helped us imagine different ways of living, seeing, making and relating to the world. In a time of accelerating ecological, social and cultural change and collapse, artistic, aesthetic, craft and design practices offer powerful ways of engaging learners with uncertainty, complexity, relationality and hope.
This inaugural InSEA SIG webinar brings together perspectives from Australia, Europe and North America to explore how art, design, craft, aesthetic experience and multimodal practices can contribute to education for sustainable futures. Through examples from our different contexts and practices, we will consider how making, experiencing, noticing and imagining can foster inquiry, dialogue, ethical reflection and creative action.
Rather than seeking a single pedagogical response to climate change, we ask what becomes possible when we attend to the different ways artistic and aesthetic practices enable us to know, feel, make and relate.
The question that holds the contributions of Professors Biljana Culibrk Fredriksen and Helene Illeris in Europe, Professor Nadine Kalin in North America, and A/Prof Kathryn Coleman in Australia together is: How might art, craft, design and aesthetic experience help us learn to live otherwise in a climate-changed world?
