COURSE DESCRIPTION

Are you a designer or fashion start-up who wants to have your own private label of lingerie, swimwear or athleisure for your brand? If so, you will need to present your chosen factory with a tech pack of each of your designs.

This 1 day short course is delivered in a live atelier by the owner, Maxine, who has designed, developed and manufactured lingerie, swimwear and athleisure for the past 15 years since graduating from the prestigious Contour Degree at DeMontfort University.

Maxine and her team boast a high-profile client list including David Koma, Galvan, Martine Rose, Janet Reger, Rouland Mouret and Coco de Mer to name a few. The winner of S14, The Apprentice, Sian Gabbidon also worked alongside Maxine during the final episode to create her swimwear collection which led to her winning the £250,000 investment.

Alongside this, Maxine has trained many fashion technicians and designers over the years including a top lecturer of a world famous Contour degree.

Having produced collections for 100’s of designers over the years, Maxine is in the unique position of working with many brands and also a team of in-house technicians and seamstress and knows exactly what is required to have in a tech pack from both the designers point of view & the manufacturers.

This is a practical course where you will develop a tech pack in real time, with a view to complete the initial tech pack by the end of the short course, ready to send to a factory.

In the industry, an initial tech pack is produced at the beginning of the development process and is expected to be updated and changed throughout. Therefore we will explain when and how to update your tech packs as required.

Please note, you will not be taught how to draw a technical design or how to use the Adobe Illustrator software on this course. We advise you to take our ‘Technical Design with Adobe Illustrator for Lingerie, Swimwear and Athleisure’ short course before taking this course to get the most out of your session.

Aspiring lingerie, swimwear or athleisure entrepreneurs & designers who want to share their tech packs with anyone along the supply chain to have their designs produced and ready to sell. Some experience with Google Sheets / Excel and also Adobe Illustrator is beneficial, however you can use pen and paper to create first drafts and learn the theory if you do not have these skills.

Main teachings are:

• All teachings are specifically tailored for lingerie, swimwear and athleisure designs.

• Overview of a design, development and production critical path and what role the tech pack plays in this.

• What tech packs and each individual spec sheet are used for.

• Overview of the different types of spec sheets you can put into your tech pack and how to keep it simple but effective.

• Detailed inspection of each spec sheet and what you need to include.

• Pre-empting common issues that arise in tech packs and troubleshooting these to ensure mistakes are avoided in production.

• Practical session of creating your own tech pack, using your own design or a template design.

• How to check your factory samples against the tech pack and use the tech pack as a feedback tool.

• How to update the tech pack throughout.

• Q & A time throughout with your tutor.

Course outcome:

At the end of this 1 day course, you will have created your own tech pack for your lingerie, swimwear or athleisure design suitable to go into development and production. You will also have a good understanding of how to use and update the tech pack throughout the process.
