Report Launch: The Role of Crime and Security Journalism in Irish Democracy

Join us on Thursday 20 August for the launch of a new report authored by Dr Cian Ó Concubhair and Glory Anumudu: The Role of Crime and Security Journalism in Irish Democracy.

The report, which is based on interviews with crime and security journalists in Ireland, North and South, explores key themes in Irish crime and security journalism, including:

• Crime and security journalists' understanding of, and confidence in, the legal regime governing confidential source protection in Ireland;
• Crime and security journalists' experiences and perceptions of police / Garda surveillance of journalists; 
• Institutional secrecy in An Garda Síochána and the PSNI, and the impact of that secrecy on journalism; and
• The role and status of crime and security journalism in Irish democracy.

The launch is taking place in the Phelan Room, in the NUI Building at 49 Merrion Square East. 

The event will start at 10.30am and finish at 11.30am. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available from 10am.

This event is funded by Dr Cian Ó Concubhair's Research Ireland New Foundations Grant. It is organised in collaboration with the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL).
