Decarbonization of an Industrial Campus

Precis allied with one industrial client to achieve a 30% emissions reduction by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. This program will discuss the challenges experienced in meeting these decarbonization goals for an industrial campus.

The presentation will describe the auditing process of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility and the process used to generate recommendations including energy saving measures, electrification, and renewable technologies. Financial implications, business continuity impact, and reliability improvements were primary drivers for each recommendation.

At Precis, Marc's primary focus has been on designing mechanical systems for pharmaceutical companies and universities located in the northeastern United States. This involves selecting and scheduling mechanical equipment as well as coordinating the installation of this equipment with all other trades. Marc has been afforded the opportunity to work on several large-scale energy-related projects and has been able to see these projects from conceptual design through construction.

Shane Helm, PE is manager – mechanical engineering at Precis Engineering + Architecture with more than 12 years of experience in his field. He provides leadership, project management, utility master planning, design, and analysis for various projects to help the firm's clients achieve their goals. Shane is experienced in designing mechanical systems within central utility plants, warehouse, laboratory, and clean room facilities. Primary mechanical systems that he has designed include upgrades to central utility plants, water distribution systems, steam and condensate distribution systems, compressed air distribution systems, and critical space HVAC. Shane holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
