Title: From Adversary Tactics to Executive Outcomes
Description: Modern cybersecurity is stuck in a paradox: organizations are spending more on tools and teams, yet breaches continue to increase in both frequency and cost. The speaker explains that traditional penetration tests and periodic security assessments are fundamentally flawed because they provide only a “snapshot” of an environment that changes daily, while adversaries operate continuously. As a result, security teams face an overwhelming flood of vulnerability findings, where “critical” severity scores often fail to reflect real-world exploitability or true business impact.
The core recommendation is shifting from point-in-time assessments to Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM)—a cycle of continuous asset discovery, threat identification, validation, and prioritized remediation. The presentation emphasizes that real security improvement comes from adding context (attack surface exposure, compensating controls, business impact) and translating technical risk into executive-level language, including financial terms like breach cost and quantified loss models such as FAIR. Ultimately, the talk frames CTEM as the path to faster, measurable risk reduction aligned with how attackers actually operate.
Bio: “From the early days of hacking networks as an adversary to leading global threat research, Hector's journey has always been about one thing, understanding systems deeply enough to make them safer. Today, as Chief Research Officer and co-founder at Safehill, he helps organizations identify and prioritize cyber exposures through Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM). As co-host of Hacker and the Fed, he bridges two worlds, the hacker mindset and law enforcement — to educate and entertain listeners across the globe. Hector speaks publicly, advises startups, and mentors the next generation of professionals in the space "because knowledge shared is resilience built".
Completing the line-up for March 5 is a wonderful panel of cybersecurity experts & practitioners:

Join us to celebrate cybersecurity professionals with information sharing, knowledge transfer, and networking. Space is limited and we will need to cut-off registration when we reach capacity. Active ISSA members will have priority.
**New price policy for attending ISSA Chicago chapter meetings for non-members (practitioners, students, veterans & guests). Anyone who has attended free in the past and is not a current member must pay $30 and (actively enrolled) students will pay $20 per meeting. This is to ensure the value of ISSA and privilege to attend chapter meetings. Please join ISSA and become a Chicago chapter member at https://issa.org/membership . Membership is only $125 per year.
