La vita è bella - Life is Beautiful - Masterpiece 30th Anniversary
FRAME [ ITALY ] started with a simple idea: show films the way they were meant to be seen. In a proper room, on a big screen, with strangers who might become friends by the time the credits roll.
We program Italian and international cinema that resists easy categories. Stories that sit with you for days. The kind of film you keep bringing up at dinner a week later, trying to explain a scene that won't translate into words.
Every season we pick a handful of titles and give each one the space it deserves. No marathon schedules, no filler.
Six movies and 2 short films, two days, one hall.
The movie won the Grand Prix at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, nine David di Donatello Awards (including Best Film), five Nastro d'Argento Awards in Italy, two European Film Awards, and three Academy Awards, including Best International Feature Film and Best Actor for Benigni, the first for a male non-English-language performance.
Life is Beautiful (124 min) When an open-minded Jewish waiter and his son become victims of the Holocaust, he uses a perfect mixture of will, humor and imagination to protect his son from the dangers around their camp.
