A Cappella Singing Day with James Sills and Mersey Wylie
ABOUT THE DAY
James Sills and Mersey Wylie invite you to join them for an uplifting afternoon and evening of a cappella (unaccompanied) harmony singing in the beautiful setting of the Concert Room at Liverpool's Roman Catholic Cathedral. The day will comprise of a workshop and an evening showcase performance featuring local community choirs.
The workshops will be co-led by James and Mersey who will teach everything by ear with no previous experience necessary. The session will start with a short warm-up, followed by learning one or two arrangements in harmony, leading to a performance at the end of the workshop. The sessions will draw on a number of different a cappella traditions from around the world and the emphasis will be on listening and blending, making the most of the stunning acoustics of the Crypt.
The evening concert will showcase local a cappella choirs and performers including Creative Community Choir, Bebington Bittermen and Over The Water A Cappella Choir . At the end of the concert, all performers will combine for a grand finale, that the audience will also be invited to join.
The concert will be raising funds for Asylum Link Merseyside and Crisis.
WORKSHOP (AFTERNOON)
Doors open: 1.30pm, workshop from 2pm to 4pm
CONCERT (EVENING)
Doors open 7pm, concert from 7.30pm to 8.30pm
ABOUT TICKETS
There are a number of ticket options available for the day:
Workshop only: £20
Performance only = £10
Combined ticket: Workshops + performance = £27.50
All tickets are subject to a maximum £2.50 booking fee per ticket. The face value of the ticket is refundable up to 7 days before the event. Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult.
Doors will open 30 minutes before each workshop/performance and the venue will need to be vacated in between the workshops/before the performance.
ABOUT THE VENUE
The Concert Room forms part of the stunning Lutyens Crypt at Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral. The only access to the Concert Room is via the entrance on Brownlow Hill (opposite the University of Liverpool's Mechanical Engineering Building) which is a short walk from Liverpool's Lime Street Station. Alternatively, onsite parking at the Cathedral will be available. The entrance for the car park is via Mount Pleasant. Refreshments will not be available at the Concert Room during any part of the day, but there are many cafes, pubs and restaurants in the vicinity.

ABOUT JAMES & MERSEY
James and Mersey are musicians and choir-leaders who are passionate about the holistic benefits of group singing. They met as members of Liverpool's Sense Of Sound Singers and for the last decade have been running open-access choirs across Merseyside and North Wales to support the health and wellbeing of participants. Together, they lead hundreds of people in song online each week as part of the global singing community The Sofa Singers, an initiative that has received widespread recognition for supporting people during the Coronavirus pandemic.
