Jane Austen's Niece

I'm Caroline Jane Knight, Jane Austen's fifth great-niece and the last of her family to grow up at Chawton House — on the ancestral Hampshire estate where Jane lived, wrote and published her most beloved works. For the first eighteen years of my life, I was immersed in Jane's world: running through the same halls she knew, eating from the Wedgwood dinner service she wrote about choosing in 1813, and listening to the stories passed down through generations.

My family and I are the last generations who knew Chawton House as our family home. We hold irreplaceable memories, stories and insights that exist nowhere else — and when my generation is gone, this living knowledge disappears forever unless it's preserved now. That's why I've dedicated myself to sharing and preserving Jane Austen's untold family stories and secrets through storytelling, experiences, events and The Austen Knights of Chawton — A Family Archive, documenting the memories, photographs and oral histories of the last generations to live at Chawton House, for Janeites, historians and future generations.
