A day's pilgrimage through London's sacred places, churches, gardens, temples, hills, standing stones and holy wells; lunch included.

On February 8th  Jason Goodwin, the co-author of A Pilgrim's Guide to Sacred London, will lead a small pilgrim group along the Royal Route between two cities, from the Tower of London to Westminster Abbey. The City of London is the traditional heart of the nation's commercial might; the City of Westminster is its political and sacerdotal centre. They pivot around the river Fleet, which we will cross dry-shod.

Uncovering the older, gentler London that still exists beneath the carapace of Mammon and Commerce, this pilgrimage will be enjoyably informative and potentially transformative, judging by some of our pilgrims' recent experience!

Starting at 10 am at St Olaves Hart St, we will explore some of the astounding sacred spaces, churches, gardens, hills, standing stones and holy wells that lie between the old commercial City of London and the royal, political City of Westminster, following a route taken by Kings and Queens of history and legend. We will visit a Roman temple, a lost island, and a battlefield, learning about London saints, river gods, and the Trojan dynasty of British kings, known to every Londoner in Shakespeare’s day.

The day will end at 5pm, ahead of the service of Choral Evensong at Westminster Abbey.

Believers and non-believers, people of any faith and no faith, are welcome to join in: all you need is an open heart, and a wish to see the capital in a new – or ancient – light. You might walk with a private purpose: your journey could be dedicated to resolving a question in your life, or to letting something go. Everybody will get a silver sixpence at the outset of our journey, and a suggestion about how to use it to achieve resolution. The rest is up to you. 

Each £145 day ticket includes a delicious two-course lunch served in a private room beneath one of London’s most sacred and ancient sites, and a donation of £10, shared between the churches we visit along the way.
