Our February symphony concert spotlights JSO with conductor Arturo Gonzalez and violinist Erasmo Solerti performing orchestral masterpieces — Berlioz's epic Symphonie fantastique and Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1. Having been rewritten “at least half a dozen times,” Max Bruch's Violin Concerto remains an audience delight with soaring, endearing melodies and dazzling virtuosic passages. And the Symphonie fastastique is nearly unprecedented in scope — prepare to be awestruck by the sounds. In the notes to his visionary score, Berlioz writes: "The composer's intention has been to develop various episodes in the life of an artist, in so far as they lend themselves to musical treatment."
