JSO Season 71: Season Opener
JSO Season 71: Season Opener
About this concert
Three mighty composers are brought together for one exhilarating season opener. Aaron Copland's El Salón México takes you to the heart of a 1930s nightclub where you'll hear inspired musical depictions of Mexican art music and dancing rhythms. Rhapsody in Blue has captivated audiences worldwide since its debut in February 1924 and we commemorate the 100th anniversary of this iconic piece composed by the legendary George Gershwin. Antonin Dvořák's Ninth Symphony, his "New World" Symphony, is a representation of the Czech composer's encounter with American culture, folk music, and the landscapes that surrounded him.
Pianist Katie Mahan is renowned as “one of the most outstanding talents coming up today,” and is "capturing the attention of audiences throughout the world for her innovative musical personality, poetic interpretations, and graceful, charming stage presence." Born in Golden, Colorado, and currently residing in Salzburg, Austria, she joins the Jefferson Symphony for our performance of Rhapsody in Blue.
Please note: online ticket sales will close at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 10/15. Please visit the venue ticketing center for day-of admission.
