FRIDAY March 13 @ 7:30
FRIDAY April 17 @ 8pm
"Accomplished playwright and nimble actress Jennifer Blaine keeps her show funny and touching throughout." - TimeOut NY
What happens when something you love goes up in flames? Do you hide under a rock and wait for it all to be over? Do you snap to attention? Or do you lean into your creativity and humor to get you through–and perhaps inspire others to do the same?
Based on her own true experience of having her beloved carport set on fire by an arsonist, “The Carport” is an interactive, multi-character account of navigating a bureaucratic nightmare to rebuild, right here in Philadelphia.
For “The Carport,” her latest solo tour de force, Philly Fringe favorite Jennifer Blaine employs her signature combination of storytelling, standup, and clever original songs. In addition to her own voice, she populates the stage with 30 other characters who bring the story to life–including a suspicious fire lieutenant, a singing insurance adjuster, a pit-bull-owning neighbor, and a drag queen political activist. Known for her uncanny ability to transform into different personas, as well as her knack for engaging audience, Jennifer is re-mounting her recent Fringe festival show because of its timely message of resiliency in the face of hardship. “The show is not just a rewarding cathartic experience for me to perform, but it facilitates greater engagement and a sense of community for the audience too. We witness getting through a seemingly impossible, mundane, personal challenge armed with a sense of humor, which we need now more than ever.” “The Carport” inspires hope to keep going, with joy, and greater kindness for ourselves and others amidst the burning embers of our world.
