Intimate Exposures: Utilizing Intimate Relationships to Facilitate Clients’ Growth

In long-term relationships, sexual behavior serves as a revealing lens through which a couple's functioning can be observed. As practitioners, we can glean valuable insights from these intimate interactions and use what they expose to work with a couple’s (often shared) anxiety around desire, openness, and intimate connection.

As a part of this training, you will learn:

  • What desire differences reveal about a couple's capacity for openness and connection.

  • How to use your understanding of a couple's sexual dynamic to facilitate the developmental growth of each individual.

  • Differentiation theory and the meaning of psychological and relational development.

  • How differentiation can facilitate a couples’ self-awareness and increase their capacity for love and genuine desire.

  • Helping clinicians better understand how to apply these principles and affect a couple’s capacity for intimacy.
