Autumn Field Notes - A Seasonal Creative Practice

The more closely we observe a place, the more deeply we begin to belong to it.

Autumn Field Notes is a series of three creative gatherings inspired by the changing season in East Lothian.

We'll slow down and notice the subtle shifts that mark the arrival of autumn—from changing light and ripening seeds to migrating birds and the changing colours of the landscape. Through observation, drawing and making, each gathering invites you to cultivate curiosity, develop a personal creative practice and enjoy the quiet details that often go unnoticed.

No previous drawing experience is needed—only curiosity and a willingness to look a little more closely.

Three Gatherings

September Field Notes - Early Autumn

Thursday 10th September, 7.00 - 9.00pm

October Field Notes - Deep Autumn

Thursday 8th October, 7.00 - 9.00pm

November Field Notes - Late Autumn

Thursday 5th November, 7.00 - 9.00pm

Each gathering lasts 2 hours and is limited to 8 participants.

You can book an individual gathering for £38, or join the full three-part series for £100.

The full-season booking includes a sketchbook to carry through the autumn, allowing you to build a collection of observations, drawings, notes and ideas as the season changes.

The studio is located upstairs and is accessed via a staircase. Please get in touch before booking if you have any questions about access or if you'd like to discuss whether the space will work for you.

There is plenty of free parking at the Steading

Jennifer Littlejohn is an artist and educator based in East Lothian whose practice is rooted in observation, drawing and the changing seasons. Inspired by the landscapes of Scotland, she creates paintings and creative experiences that encourage curiosity, careful looking and a deeper appreciation of the places we inhabit.

Alongside her own practice, Jennifer has over eighteen years' experience as an artist, educator and creative facilitator, designing welcoming and thoughtfully structured creative experiences for people of all ages and abilities.

Cancellations & refunds

Full refunds are available for cancellations made at least 7 days before the gathering. Cancellations within 7 days are non-refundable unless your place can be filled by another participant.

If you can no longer attend, you're welcome to transfer your place to someone else — just let Jennifer know in advance.

Full Season bookings are for all three gatherings and individual sessions cannot be refunded or exchanged separately.
