After October 7: Testimonies from Released Hostage, Hostage Families, and Survivors
Sun Oct 20, 2024 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Description
Description
When we entered Shabbat on October 6, 2023, we had no idea how much our lives and our world would change when we woke up to news of the horrific attacks in Israel the next day. Throughout this past year, our community has stepped up to support Israel and one another during this time of heartbreak and grief.
As we mark the anniversary of October 7, we will be joined by three members of Kibbutz Nir Oz: Liat Atzili, Ola Metzger, and Morran Moses. Liat was taken to Gaza as a hostage and was released after 54 days in Hamas captivity and has published part of her story in the New York Times. Ola’s in-laws and Morran’s parents were also taken hostage. Ola’s mother-in-law and Morran’s mother were released. Ola’s father, Yoram, was murdered in captivity. Morran’s father, Gadi, remains in captivity in Gaza.
After we hear stories from Kibbutz Nir Oz, there will be multiple breakout sessions to discuss how to move forward, heal, and rebuild with dignity and purpose after experiencing a tragedy.
This event is targeted towards adults. High school students are welcome to attend with their parents.
Agenda
- 5-6pm: Reception with appetizers and drinks, exhibition access open
- 6-6:50pm: Presentation from members of Kibbutz Nir Oz
- 7-8pm: Interactive, discussion-based breakout sessions (subject to change)

This event is presented by the Jewish Community Project (JCP) in memory of Liat’s husband, Aviv and Ola’s father-in-law, Yoram, who were murdered by Hamas. You can learn more about JCP here.
