About the Organiser
Joe Watts was as a professional stunt performer working on Hollywood films and major television productions between 2015-2019 before a stunt went wrong whilst filming on set at Leavesden Studios, Watford, in July 2019. Joe fell 25ft/around 8m onto his head on concrete, which fractured his skull and gave him a severe traumatic brain injury.
The fall ended a very promising stunt career and reset life for Joe. He has spent 6.5 years in full-time recovery, relearning how to balance, communicate, be independent, ride a bike, drive a car, go on planes, and many more. Thankfully, Joe has climbed mostly out of what was a devastating injury. He still has issues with memory, concentration and fatigue, and lives with his wife, Tilly Powell, in Fetcham, Surrey.
Joe has only been afforded the opportunity to recover because of the efforts of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance team (EHAAT) who saved Joe's life by transporting him from Leavesden Studios to The Royal London Hospital in record time, and within The Golden Hour! They provided life-saving emergency procedures, including placing Joe in a coma, and we are indebted to them for their actions.
This event has been organised by Tilly Powell and Dawn Powell and is looking to raise vital funds for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. Tilly is Joe's wife.
The charity’s work supports the film and stunt community in and around Leavesden Studios, Hertfordshire and Essex, providing life saving emergency care when it is needed most. The EHAAT team predominantly respond to falls from height, road traffic collisions, critical medical emergencies and major incidents.
The average cost per life-saving flight is £2,800 and we hope the everyone is very generous on the night so we are able to donate as much as possible!
