Clinicians in Conversation: A Psychoanalytic Consultation Group

Event Description:

This clinical discussion group brings together early career and experienced mental health professionals to engage in in-depth case discussion and peer consultation through a psychoanalytic lens. Led by psychoanalyst, Scott Boles, Ph.D. and Silvia Rodriguez, Ph.D., the group is designed to support the integration of psychodynamic theory and clinical practice. Participants present cases and receive feedback in a respectful, collaborative environment that encourages curiosity, openness, and clinical creativity.

Join a group of early-career and established mental health professionals utilizing a psychoanalytic framework to discuss and understand their clinical work. The group provides a safe, thoughtful, and collaborative setting while earning up to 15 CMEs per academic year. Although the group is limited to 12 members, we are looking for a few new therapists to join us.

The Psychoanalytic Peer Consultation Group meets in person once a month, typically on the first Wednesday of the month, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center. The group will consist of 10 meetings over the year, beginning in September 2026 and finishing in June 2027.  The group will be led by senior psychoanalysts, Scott Boles, Ph.D., and Silvia Rodriguez, Ph.D. The cost of joining the study group is $350 for the year (includes 15.0 CMEs/CEs). That equates to only $35 a session! A discount applies for SDPC Members ($275). 

Presenters' Information:

Scott Boles, Ph.D.

Dr. Boles is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalyst in private practice who works with children, adolescents, adults, and couples, as well as provides individual and group supervision to mental health professionals. He serves on SDPC’s Education Committee and is a distinguished member of the faculty.

Silvia Rodriguez, Ph.D., LMFT

Dr. Rodriguez is a Licensed Psychotherapist and Analyst who treats children, adolescents and adults. Dr. Rodriguez is also an experienced licensed therapist and marriage and family counselor with a private practice in San Diego. She is a graduate from SDPC’s psychoanalytic training program and now a member of the faculty.

1. Apply psychoanalytic concepts to patient care
2. Demonstrate skill in presenting clinical case material to peers
3. Formulate clinical cases using a psychoanalytic framework

Target Audience: This program meets the needs of all mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. All levels.

Seminar Format: This is an in-person only program and preregistration is required.

BBS Statement: Course meets the qualifications for 15.0 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Partial credit will not be awarded.

Psychologists: The California Board of Psychology accepts CE credits from the CMA. Psychologists are responsible for reporting their individual attendance to the Board of Psychology. Psychologists attending SDPC events approved for CE credits may report AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ toward their CE requirements. Psychologists self-certify the number of hours they have completed on their renewal form.
