Writing for Publication Series
Writing for Publication Series
Seminar Background:
From the beginning of psychoanalysis the concept of writing about our work, and our ideas, has held a privileged position. Sigmund Freud believed that analysts had a "duty" to publish so as to advance psychoanalytic knowledge. Other analysts have suggested that writing about our work helps to lessen dogma and promote innovation – while at the same time helping to reaffirm quite established ideas and beliefs.
We write so as to make public, ideas and beliefs captured in the solitude of the consulting room…and in the process connect with colleagues outside the stark solitude of the consulting room. Perhaps we write to be seen or heard. Most would agree we write to know our patients better and more clearly.
How do we do all of the above while keeping the confidentiality of our patients safe in the ever transparent world of our current technology?
Today, it very well may be that a vacuum exists on the hows and whys to write for publication, and this series aims to fill that vacuum. Please join us and discover the unique motivations and beliefs of these extraordinary analysts.
Seminar Description:
This six-part series brings together some of the most prolific and celebrated authors in contemporary psychoanalysis to address precisely these questions. Each month, one presenter will reflect on their own experience of writing for publication: the motivations, the challenges, the craft, and the rewards. Whether you have never submitted a manuscript or are a seasoned contributor to the literature, this series offers something rare: an honest, intimate look at what it means to write from within the analytic tradition.
Designed for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, trainees, and mental health professionals at all levels of experience, this series offers a unique opportunity to learn from accomplished authors while fostering participants' confidence and competence in professional writing. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the role of writing in advancing clinical practice, psychoanalytic theory, and professional development.
