Pieces of Me: A Self-Representation Mosaic Workshop

Pieces of Me is an interactive creative wellness experience that invites participants to explore identity, resilience, and self-expression through mosaic art.

Rather than creating a traditional self-portrait, participants will use pieces that represent the black experience to create an abstract representation of themselves on an 8x8 canvas. We will be using a variety of cultural materials ranging from beads and barrettes to dice and cards. Each participant also gets the option of a custom canvas. Selfies must be submitted by 9/15 for this option. An email with instructions on how to submit your selfie will be sent to you once you purchase your ticket. If you prefer to freestyle this project, that is perfectly fine as well.

This workshop emphasizes the beauty that can emerge from fragmented experiences while creating space for storytelling, conversation, and community connection. Participants leave not only with a finished mosaic artwork, but with a deeper appreciation for their own journey and the shared experiences of those around them.

Unlimited herbal mocktails by Journey Within will be served while supplies last. Light snacks will be provided free of charge. Additionally, a food vendor will be present serving a cultural spread for a nominal fee ($10 or less). Participants will also receive a gift bag at the end of the event!
