The Jobs Series: Finding Work & Pitching Your Ideas As A Freelance Journalist
Tue 8 Oct 2024 5:30 PM - Sun 13 Oct 2024 11:45 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
Our most popular masterclass returns for 2024, fully reworked with brand-new advice and exercises to boost your career as a freelance journalist. This 90-minute workshop is the perfect introduction or refresher to push your freelance game forward, packed with practical examples and exercises. This event is free with a Journo Resources membership — and that can be written off in your taxes!
Led by freelance journalist and Journo Resources founder Jem Collins, we'll cover three key strands:
- Finding Freelance Work: We'll talk through our processes to find freelance call-outs before they're swamped, including how to get technology to do the heavy lifting for you;
- Writing Better Pitches For Work: We'll look at real examples of successful story pitches and applications for shift work and talk about the common threads which link them together and how you can use them in your own work;
- Making More Money, More Efficiently: We'll talk about how to be more efficient with your freelance work and find more opportunities, as well as offer guidance on the current rates landscape.
As always, there will also be the chance to ask your own questions.

Types Of Ticket
Live Ticket: Select a live ticket if you'd like to watch the session live. You'll receive a Zoom link to join when you order. Don't worry if your plans change though – we will also send you a copy of the recording and session notes via email. This is normally 24-48 hours after the session to allow time for us to edit the recording.
Watch Back / Recorded: If you just want to watch back, please select a recorded ticket. This allows us to keep a handle on numbers and make sure we have enough seats around our virtual table. Again, no worries if you change your mind, you will still be sent the Zoom link, so no need to let us know if your plans change. You will typically be sent the recording 24-48 hours after the live session, to give our team time to edit.
