Breaking Into Travel Journalism And Making It Pay

Mon 12 Oct 2026 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM BST Online, Zoom

Travel journalism certainly has its appeal — a chance to explore the world, while getting paid to write or broadcast your adventures. But it can also feel like one of the most elusive and complex fields to break into. How do you find press trips? How to develop original and creative stories in the age of AI and influencers? What are the best ways to minimise your impact on the environment? And how best to put respect at the heart of your stories?

Returning with a new version of her sell-out event, experienced travel journalism Karen Edwards provide practical tips and advice to both new and established journalists looking to take their first steps into travel. She'll be running through:

  • The basics of travel journalism and the key skills required;

  • What makes a good piece of travel writing;

  • How to get onto press trip lists, find stories, and get them placed;

  • What it means to travel sustainably;

  • Making travel work for your wallet.

As with all our events, there will also be the chance to ask your own questions both live and in advance.

Want to see this and every other event we run for just £8.99 a month? Become a Journo Resources member here and help us in our mission to build a better journalism industry.
