How To Interview Vulnerable Case Studies As A Journalist
Wed 10 Nov 2021 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
As journalists, our job often involves meeting people who have had traumatic or distressing experiences. But, while we're often taught how to think about 'the story' it's also vital we fulfil our duty of care to them. In this practical, hour-long workshop experienced journalist Natasha Preskey will run through practical tips and advice on the whole process, from interview to publication.
We'll cover:
- How put interviewees at ease – and knowing when to stop,
- Ensuring you get informed consent for your story,
- Making sure you get what you need as a journalist,
- How to approach requests for readbacks,
- Managing expectations.
In addition to the workshop there will also be a chance to ask Natasha your questions directly, either as part of the live Q&A or by submitting questions in advance. All participants will receive a copy of the recording and workshop notes you can use when interviewing case studies in the future.

Types Of Ticket
Live Ticket: Select a live ticket if you'd like to watch the session live. You'll receive a Zoom link to join when you order. Don't worry if your plans change though – we will also send you a copy of the recording and session notes via email. This is normally 24-48 hours after the session to allow time for us to edit the recording.
Watch Back / Recorded: If you just want to watch back, please select recorded ticket. This allows us to keep a handle on numbers and make sure we have enough seats around our virtual table. Again, no worries if you change your mind, you will still be sent the Zoom link, so no need to let us know if your plans change. You will typically be sent the recording 24-48 hours after the live session, to give our team time to edit.
