Breaking Into Travel Journalism: From Press Trips To Sustainability

Wed 5 Oct 2022 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM BST Online, Zoom

For many, travel journalism is the ultimate goal – a chance to explore the world, while getting paid to write or broadcast your adventure. But it can also feel like one of the most elusive and complex fields to break into. How can you find press trips? What are the best ways to minimise your impact on the environment? And how best to put respect at the heart of your stories?

Our new hour-long workshop/Q&A with experienced travel journalist Karen Edwards will run through:

  • The basics of travel journalism,
  • How to break into travel journalism and the key skills required,
  • What makes a good piece of travel writing,
  • How to get onto press trip lists and find stories,
  • How to travel sustainably.

As with all our workshops, there will also be the chance to ask questions in advance and all attendees will receive a copy of the workshop to watch back.

Types Of Ticket

Live Ticket: Select a live ticket if you'd like to watch the session live. You'll receive a Zoom link to join when you order. Don't worry if your plans change though – we will also send you a copy of the recording and session notes via email. This is normally 24-48 hours after the session to allow time for us to edit the recording.

Watch Back / Recorded: If you just want to watch back, please select recorded ticket. This allows us to keep a handle on numbers and make sure we have enough seats around our virtual table. Again, no worries if you change your mind, you will still be sent the Zoom link, so no need to let us know if your plans change. You will typically be sent the recording 24-48 hours after the live session, to give our team time to edit.
