How To Tell Authentic Stories Using Solutions Journalism
Mon 6 Mar 2023 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
This is the penultimate event in our Refine Reporting Fellowship, with limited places available to the public. We'll be exploring the importance of solutions journalism within the context of science and climate stories.
When reporting on science topics, particularly climate change, we can risk giving too much space and visibility to the ‘doom and gloom’ narratives. Whilst journalists have a duty to report accurately, this isn't at odds with using a solutions-focused lens.
In fact, we should be actively seeking those stories — particularly in the context of underrepresented and marginalised communities across the globe. Otherwise, our reporting is at risk of being one-dimensional and unrepresentative of lived experiences.
What The Workshop Will Cover:
The importance of solutions journalism in the context of science and climate stories;
Relating solutions journalism to real people's everyday lives;
Using science stories to uplift marginalised perspectives;
Advice on dealing with data and relating it to real stories.
