About the play

Jane and Emma are mother and daughter. Their relationship is close and complex, and when dementia comes into the mix life becomes less and less predictable, sometimes surprising, often funny. Emma is constantly looking for ways to continue connecting with her mother as they navigate these changes. Jane's history as a wife, mother and actress, their Jewish family customs, Emma's work as a musician and their shared sense of humour weave a rich story, threaded through with songs, some of which have been written for this piece.

About the writer

Judith has been a singer, songwriter, singing facilitator and performer for over twenty-five years. This is her first play.

About the performers

For this reading, we're lucky enough to be welcoming back the wonderful Sophie Aldred, Annie Marcuson, Leigh Shine, Mary-Alice Stack and Rev. June Boyce-Tillman.

Why a rehearsed reading?

The vision for this play is for it to be staged in a theatre with movement, live music, actual people in an actual room, remember those days...? Meanwhile, with things as they are, it's been adapted to be done in this form; perhaps then developing from here to a radio play and then... when the time is right for it to spread its wings... off it will go ❤

Our first two performances raised funds for Dementia UK and Cruse Bereavement Care, since dementia and death are themes woven through this play. This time, we are dedicating 20% of all profits to The Loss Foundation, a UK charity providing support for bereavement due to cancer and Covid-19 for spouses, family members, friends and colleagues.
