elias wolf - Sovereign Soul EP Release Show with Ríomas
Doors at 6:30pm, Show at 7pm
Join singer-songwriter and musical spellcaster elias wolf for an evening of live looping vocal magic as they share songs from their new record, sovereign soul. Born during a year of profound unraveling and becoming, these songs started as simple song-affirmations, repeated quietly to themself in moments of grief, fear and uncertainty. Now fleshed out into layers of lush, dissonant harmonies, elias brings these songs to the community, with invitations to join in singing or simply sit back and allow oneself to be held in sonic sanctuary. As a dynamic performer and tender of collective energy, elias is most alive when the line between artist and audience dissolves into something shared, intimate, and electric, and they are known for putting on shows that feel connective and re-humanizing.
BIOS
elias wolf (they/them) is a heart-forward, moon-guided and water-bound love warrior, vocal sorcerer, and song witch—part performer, part composer, part teacher, part community weaver. elias creates music and shared singing experiences described as "re-humanizing queer song magic for the revolution." For over two decades, elias has been using song as both an expressive art and a tool for cultivating connection; their ultimate aim in life is to uplift music for personal and collective liberation. As a solo artist, elias' music is a molten blend of soaring melody, lush harmonies, and lyric truth-telling that refuses to flinch. Writing with blood, breath, and devotion, elias weaves layers of dissonant vocals with lyricism forged in the fire of their own loving, grieving, healing and transformation.
As an educator, elias has been at the helm of over 15 choirs and vocal groups, including 5-time national champion high school a cappella group Vocal Rush, powerhouse vocal quintet HIVE, and intergenerational queer vocal groups HomoPhonic and Queer Choir. elias is also an award-winning vocal arranger, and their work has been showcased alongside Kehlani, Ben Harper, Pentatonix and the Oakland Symphony Chorus. Their love of organizing and producing events also led them to found an arts advocacy nonprofit devoted to uplifting marginalized voices in vocal music. With deep roots in Eugene, OR and Oakland, CA, elias served 10 years on vocal music faculty at Oakland School for the Arts, and their tenure as director of University of Oregon’s a cappella group Divisi was the inspiration for the film Pitch Perfect. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, elias has six albums to their name including their most recent EP sovereign soul: a sonic sanctuary born during a year of profound unraveling and becoming. A performer of 25+ years, elias has shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin, k.d. lang, Sigur Rós and Coldplay, and has performed at storied venues including SFJAZZ Center, Carnegie Hall, Yoshi's and Lincoln Center. Now based in their hometown of Eugene, OR (unceded Kalapuya land), elias continues to weave threads of love and liberation through song.
