Description
Following their sell-out visits in 2020 and 2023, we are delighted to welcome back Windborne, the vocal quartet from the States described by Songlines as 'The most exciting vocal group in a generation'.
Windborne specialise in close harmony singing, shifting effortlessly between different styles of traditional music. Their musical knowledge spans many continents and cultures as well as being deeply rooted in American folk singing traditions.
Workshop: 10.30am - 4.00pm, Saturday 18th January 2025
Concert: 7.30 - 10.00pm, Sunday 19th January 2025
During the full-day workshop on Saturday Windborne will teach songs from their American roots, songs of protest and freedom from their album 'Of Hard Times and Harmony' as well as folk songs from other cultures collected on their travels. The workshop is open to everyone - all songs and harmonies will be taught by ear.
On Sunday evening Windborne will perform a full-length concert in the lovely acoustic of Marazion Community Centre.
It is possible to book for just the Workshop (£40), just the Concert (£12), or a combined ticket for the Workshop and Concert (£48).
There are a limited number of bursary places available for Students and people receiving: Universal Credit, Disability Benefit, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance or Pension Credit.
Kana Kernow (Singing Cornwall) workshops are relaxed and friendly - all singers are welcome whether or not they sing in a choir or read music. For the singing workshop - Singers are asked to bring all their own refreshments (hot drinks, snacks and lunch) to sustain them for the day.
At the concert there will be a simple bar (with any profits being donated to St Petrocs, the charity working to end homelessness in Cornwall).
Marazion Community Centre has plenty of parking and good access.
Kana Kernow (Singing Cornwall) - set up by local singing leader Pip Wright - has been inviting excellent singing leaders to West Cornwall since 2013 so we can enjoy exciting, top quality and diverse singing workshops without having to travel 'up the line'.
