Description
This is an 8-session, weekly class taught online via Zoom. Each session will tackle different approaches and styles to help you make* your solo show. You will be given homework assignments so that you are actively creating every week. Katy will give guidance and exercises and you will receive feedback from the class on the work you create. There is no prerequisite for this class, but any writing and/or improvisation experience will be useful.
The class runs on Mondays 7-9pm London-time for eight sessions. Class dates 18th & 25th November, one week gap, 9th & 16th December, two week gap, 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th January.
*This is a writing course, though we will look at devising and improvisation as tools.

Week 7 will be split into 1:1 time slots where you will get personal feedback and discuss your work.
Week 8 will be a 'Scratch Night' where all are invited to share a part of their show (though there is no obligation to do so).
The class is limited to 12 participants.
1:1s are available as an add-on.
This is the tenth iteration of this course. Many previous participants have gone on to produce their solo shows and/or make other work inspired by the course.
Your instructor:
Katy is currently performing in her acclaimed play The Ice at the End of the World at Omnibus Theatre. The show is inspired by her artist residency with The Arctic Circle Project 2022 and supported by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation and Arts Council England.
Katy Schutte has written for many different platforms. She is a contributing writer for card game Cards Against Humanity, was resident songwriter for Sean and Robot's Comedy Circuit podcast on Fun Kids digital radio, co-writer of Beth's Legacy, an augmented reality story game for Storyfutures and CreativeXR and one of two writers for The Galaxicle Implosions, a semi-improvised virtual reality, live and streaming show with Flipside and Fandco. Katy wrote and starred in sit com web series Sideliners and screenplay Coming of (Middle) Age which both won numerous awards in 2022/23. She has written and performed in 5-star fringe shows including comedy musical Who Ya Gonna Call, folk horror Let's Summon Demons and storytelling stand-up show Schutte the Unromantic. Katy is a Brighton Fringe Best Comedy Show Finalist (2018). Her book, The Improviser's Way: A Longform Workbook is published by Nick Hern Books.
