“a joy: eclectic, illuminating and uplifting.” Jazzwise Magazine

Pianist, singer and composer Olivia Trummer, brings her uplifting artistry to the atmospheric, golden-tinged space of St Cyprian's Clarence Gate, near Baker Street, supported by Serkan Çağrı, one of Turkey's leading clarinettists, who opens with a set of improvisations ('taksim') on G clarinet.

Classically-trained, Olivia impresses equally as a virtuosic pianist, singer, composer and improviser. Her exceptional talent and musical approach have led her to sharing the stage with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Eric Clapton and Bobby McFerrin, performing at festivals like Montreux and Umbria Jazz and at London's Ronnie Scotts. This evening she performs from her solo album "Like Water“, recorded in New York by Russ Titelman (who has worked with many major artists including the Beach Boys, Chaka Kahn and George Harrison), offering songs in English, Italian and German that flow naturally from a classical prelude to a deconstructed jazz standard. Beethoven and Bach blend seamlessless with Stevie Wonder, Sting and Jerome Kern. Olivia's own songs are touching, uplifting and daring, and her scat singing, in perfect unity with the piano, has been compared to George Benson and his guitar.

"A lot of jazz these days sounds like humanity has only two days left. Not so with Olivia Trummer. Her kind of jazz carries a driving pulse turned toward life." NDR Culture

Serkan Çağrı is an internationally-recognized clarinet virtuoso, composer and academic known for his distinctive style and contributions to the development of the Turkish G-clarinet. He has performed with Sting, Joan Baez, Giorgos Dalaras, Roby Lakatos, Natacha Atlas, Trilok Gurtu, and many others. He opens this concert with a solo, stripped-back set of fluid improvisations and reflections on the great Turkish songbook.
