Anatolian kamancha fiddle player Melisa Yıldırım and Indian tabla player Swarupa Ananth created musical magic when they met in early 2022 during a residency in Florida and recorded a spontaneous album in one take, now released as ‘Hues of Imagination’. This month, the duo meet for the first time since that session to reconnect on stage as musical soulmates to explore where improvisation and inspiration takes both them and the audience.

Melisa graduated from Conservatory of Music at Istanbul Technical University with first class honours. She has performed at London’s Barbican Centre as a solo artist and has participated in the British Council’s Women of the World Festival with the Yazz Ahmed Quartet. Her styles and influences range from Sufi music to Anatolian folk, as well as Iranian genres and contemporary world music.

Swarupa Ananth is a bold young Indian percussionist and producer, who was ranked in the ‘Forbes India 30 under 30 list’. She has been a prolific entertainer from a young age, mentored by percussion mastersf Ustad Allarakha & Zakir Hussain. Her debut album Raagatronic with collaborator Shriram Sampath reached #1 on the iTunes India charts and she has performed with her group Filter Coffee at Southbank Centre, Glastonbury Festival as well as at the Brunswick Hove.

Support comes from Brighton-based Ukrainian singer-songwriter Dina Shenderetska and Russian flautist Polina Loubnina, who has been a music lecturer at the College of the Arts in Windhoek, Namibia where she was also a member of the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra.
