Do Something Good For Your Neighbor, the acclaimed public art installation at Lake Como Park in Fort Worth, Texas, is currently on view as part of PORCH: An Architecture of Generosity at the U.S. Pavilion in the prestigious 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, in Venice, Italy. Inspired by the natural beauty and rich history of Lake Como Park, the sculptural installation by the Art Studio at RDG Planning & Design (formerly RDG Dahlquist Art Studio: artist team, Matt Niebuhr and David Dahlquist), acts as a frame and serves as an invitation to gather, meditate, and enjoy nature and community.
In celebration of this distinct honor, Arts Fort Worth is organizing a panel discussion in partnership with Keith House, home to James Turrell’s 99th Skyspace artwork entitled Come to Good, on Thursday, November 13, from 4:00 – 5:00pm. The panel will focus on art in public space derived through the powerful intersection of design and public engagement. Panelists include: Ella Burton, Como Resident and Public Art Project Core Team Member; Matt Niebuhr, Artist and Senior Partner at RDG Planning & Design; Anitra Blayton, Lake Como Park Public Art Master Planner; Philip Newburn, Chair of the Fort Worth Art Commission; and, Janelle Montgomery, Director of Keith House. After an intermission, guests are invited to participate in the sunset viewing of Come to Good, scheduled to take place from 5:29 – 6:07pm.
The Venice Architecture Biennale is the world's foremost architectural exhibition, convening leading architects, designers, and thinkers from around the globe to explore and showcase pioneering ideas in architecture and the built environment. The event serves as a platform for international dialogue and innovation, with national pavilions presenting curated exhibitions that reflect each country's architectural contributions and cultural identity. The U.S. Pavilion offers a unique opportunity to spotlight American projects on a global stage. For the United States Pavilion at the 19th International Biennale Architettura of La Biennale di Venezia, the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas was commissioned by the United States Department of State to organize and curate the exhibition. This work was done in partnership with DesignConnects and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The exhibition explores how the United States can be represented—at its best—through architecture that reflects it’s national character. It does so by examining the contemporary expression of “the porch,” a quintessentially American space that is social, environmental, tectonic, performative, hospitable, generous, and democratic.
