The pursuit of joy for Black women is a radical act of liberation in a society purposefully dependent on
and subsequently upheld by the ritualistic subjugation of Black people . Such efforts elicit fear from within and outside of the Black community; as such, they are rarely understood, encouraged, or celebrated. At the Claiming my Joy Conference for Black Women we will model and embrace the importance of vulnerability; first with self, then with others. Participants will be encouraged and supported while we hold space for the therapeutic act of truth-telling. We will begin to reimagine our world as Black women by creating a visionary self-plan of action. At this conference, our goal is to create an environment and experience that reveals a foundation for participants to build community and embark on their own personal journey to claiming their joy.

Objectives:

• Modeling the importance of Vulnerability beginning with Self and to expand it with others.
• Embracing the therapeutic and liberating act of Truth Telling.
• Exploring the development of visionary self-plans
• Evaluating stereotypes of Black Woman identity
