Jurij Fedynskyj & Family: Historic, Noble and Traditional Ukrainian Music of Defence and Peace

We are delighted to host the Fedynskyi Family in Woodbridge as part of their European tour. Yurii Fedynskyi is a Ukrainian-American-Ukrainian composer, performer, instrument maker, cultural activist and teacher whose work is focused on reviving the musical traditions of pre-Soviet Ukraine.

Fedynskyi grew up in a Ukrainian diaspora community in North Carolina but moved to the small Ukrainian village of Kryachkivka (population 500) in Poltava oblast in the late 1990s to work on resurrecting the almost lost tradition of “dumy” – lyrical ballads by blind Ukrainian bardic musicians. He is a luthier of the kobzar, bandura, torban, hurdy-gurdy, and he has turned his tiny village into a mecca for folk music performers and makers, founding a guild of like-minded people and a famous festival of traditional
Ukrainian music.

During the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Fedynskyi has spent time performing in frontline Ukrainian cities. Now Yuriy’s family, talented musicians in their own right, join him on this remarkable European tour aimed at raising awareness of Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage and using music’s ability to bring people together.

Tickets are FREE but please book. Please also donate at the event towards the family's future performances in Ukraine. Suggested donation: £15
