London Masterclass in Acute Pulmonary Embolism Management
LEAP-PE 2025
Acute Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease after myocardial infarction and stroke. There is emerging evidence that advances in acute treatment strategies for PE can prevent as well as treat haemodynamic collapse, recover right ventricular dysfunction, and improve survival.
Masterclass Aims: This interactive, multidisciplinary masterclass will focus on improving care for patients with pulmonary embolism through expert-led sessions, hands-on learning, and an open forum for discussion. Key topics include:
- Risk stratification and escalation of care
- Role of AI in prediction and decision-making
- Emerging engineering innovations
- Obstetric PE management
- Predictive biomarkers and computational flow dynamics
Refreshments and lunch: Tea, coffee and lunch will be served.
Lead organisers:
- Dr Narayan Karunanithy - Consultant Interventional Radiologist, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust; Honorary Senior Lecturer School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London
- Mr Abrie Botha - Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
