Unlocked: Poetry as a Gateway to Creativity Workshop

This immersive two-day workshop is for working artists from all disciplines (writers! musicians! performers! visual artists!). We will delve deep into the creative process, exploring vulnerabilities and embracing risk-taking. Through a series of hands-on activities, from cut-out and blackout poetry to collage and zine-making, participants will discover how poetry can enhance non-linear thinking, ignite creative inspiration, and uncover unexpected connections between ideas and emotions.

The inclusive environment will encourage artists from all fields to share and learn together, fostering a supportive community in the process. Whether you’re a writer, musician, actor, visual artist, or coming from any other creative field, your artistic practice is sure to benefit from this fun and engaging weekend of playful learning.

How many people can attend?
A maximum of 20 people will be attending.

Can kids come?

The workshop on Thursday is open to all ages from 7 and up. Kids between the ages of 7-14 must be accompanied by an adult. The workshop on the weekend is for working artists and would not be appropriate for kids.

Can I attend only one day of the weekend workshop?

Though it would be best to have you there for the full weekend, it is possible to benefit from attending on just Saturday or Sunday. The cost for a single day registration is $85. Please contact KHC directly to arrange this.

Is there financial assistance available?

Yes, please fill out this form if you would like to attend but are unable to pay the full fee.

Is lunch included?

No. There will be coffee, tea, and light snacks in the morning but you’ll be on your own for lunch. We’ll take a break from 12:00-1:00pm and you can pop out for something or stay and eat a packed lunch during that time.

I’m not a ‘professional’ or working artist, but I love art! Can I sign up?

This workshop is designed for folks who are working in a creative capacity on a regular basis. We are open to broad definitions of ‘working artist’.
