Autumn seed gathering family event - Sheffield

Join us for a family-friendly seed gathering event this Autumn, in Sheffield’s largest ancient woodland. 🌳🌰🍁

Seed collecting is a fun nature-based activity for all ages. Join us for a short, guided walk in Ecclesall woods, where you'll learn about the tree species we're growing (and why, how to identify tree species and check if a tree is healthy. Help us collect seeds to grow on at our community tree nursery, and take some home to grow yourself (if you'd like to).

You'll also be able to find out about other positive climate actions you can take from our friends at Parents For Future Sheffield - a growing climate action group for busy parents who want to find community and campaign together to protect our kids' futures.

Where is it: Meet outside the J G Graves Woodland Discovery Centre, 260 Abbey Lane, Sheffield S7 2QZ

When is it: Sunday 18th October, either 11am-12pm or 1-2pm (select time slot when booking)

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

This is a free event organised and facilitated by Kids Plant Trees, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

What you'll need:

Please wear suitable clothing for staying warm, and possible wet weather. We advise wearing sturdy, waterproof shoes such as walking boots or wellies.

Please bring your own refreshments. Alternatively, refreshments are available from The Woodland Coffee Stop, next to the discovery centre.

Getting here:

The Woodland Discovery Centre is located just off Abbey Lane (roughly half way between Ecclesall Road South and Abbeydale Road). See Google maps

By car: The Woodland Discovery Centre has a car park with disabled spaces. Please note spaces cannot be guaranteed. Further parking can be found in lay-bys along Abbey Lane and Whirlowdale Road.

By bus: Click the bus numbers below for timetables.

• 218 (ask to alight at The Discovery Centre - there is no dedicated stop)
• 97 and 98 (plus 10 minute walk)

Accessibility & facilities:

The Woodland Discovery Centre offers toilets, including an accessible toilet, with additional outdoor toilets available in the car park.

Please note the woodland paths may be uneven, with some rocky ground and steps, and also wet and muddy depending on the weather. Please let us know when you book if you have any access requirements.

We want everyone to feel welcome at our events and we have experience of working with children with special needs. If you want to discuss anything with us before the event, please let us know when you book.

If anyone in your family/group needs an interpreter, please let us know when you book.

Children's University:

If your child's school is registered with the Children's University, your child can collect credits at this event. Just bring their CU passport with you.

This is a free event but we ask that you book a ticket for everyone attending, including children. We welcome any donations to support our community and school projects, helping children and nature to thrive together. Thank you.
