The 17th edition of the Semenawa Research Meeting (SRM) will be held at KinbakuOdyssey (KO) studio in Northern Virginia.

During this meeting, we will discuss the elements and aesthetics that have defined traditional kinbaku. With help of various photos and illustrations, we will dive into the evolution of kinbaku during the prominent Shōwa era in Japan (1926-1989). We will aim to uncover how these elements made their way into modern semenawa. The discussion will be followed by two tying demos that will emphasize the discussed elements.

The meeting will feature two models: Brina (@fleur_delace) and Susie (@tiedupRN).

The unique and intimate nature of this meeting will allow participants to discuss, observe, and ask questions throughout the meeting, as well as taking photos from various vantage points during the tying demos.

SRM is inspired by Naka sensei’s Semenawa Study Group in Tokyo and held in the US with his blessing.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

Odys

Odys is a rigger/kinbaku artist and educator who discovered the beauty of rope bondage ten years ago, and have been deeply dedicated to it ever since. Initially inspired by the traditional Japanese style bondage, he had attended workshops with many world class presenters to find his path. He is the creator of KinbakuOdyssey studio and a direct student of Naka Akira. Odys has taught and performed internationally including Naka sensei's Semenawa Study Group (責め縄研究会) in Tokyo.

To Odys, kinbaku is a connective journey expressed through emotional transitions, evoked by progressive torment and power exchange. Each rope represents the catch and release of control. With each rope, he takes his partners on a journey of self discovery, exposing what they secretly crave. His unique expression of sensually erotic semenawa evokes sensations of pleasure and pain, ultimately pushing his partners to reveal their inner feelings and emotions to him.

Brina

Brina is a fun-loving adventure seeker who never takes life too seriously. She identifies as an evolving masochist who has been exploring rope bondage for about 5 years and has a sweet spot for semenawa. While the majority of her experience has been as a bottom, she also enjoys playing as a rope top. Her favorite thing about kinbaku is the intimate connection that is formed through the top and bottom, as well as the full mind-body awareness that results from the experience.

Susie

Susie is a rope bottom who began her rope journey in 2019. As a switch in other areas of kink, she is passionate about the dynamic nature and depth of the human experience. This is what draws her to kinbaku, as to her it is poetry in motion and another means of having a conversation to connect with another person. She uses rope as a lens to better understand herself and others, as she views it as a way to purposefully & intentionally interact with different emotions as they arise through the progressive rope interaction. To her, rope is a very embodied experience, and she also uses it as a means to be in better dialogue with her own body as she continues to challenge herself in rope and deepen into all that kinbaku has to offer.
