Free taster -Lead the Change Wales: Creating a Wales without violence through bystander intervention

Have you ever heard a joke, comment or insult against women or girls and wished you'd said something to challenge it?

Maybe you've seen something you weren't okay with but didn't have the confidence or skills to intervene?

It doesn’t have to be this way. *If you noticed something that wasn’t okay, would you know what to do?

For most of us, this will have happened at least once. Bystander intervention training is about upskilling all of us to intervene in these sort situations. It's based on the idea that by intervening in small ways we can all play a part in preventing more severe harms like sexual assault.

When we see or hear sexual harassment, and do nothing, we empower the harasser. The same goes for sexism, misogyny, ‘banter’ and unwanted comments that degrade women and girls. When we let these things pass, we create a culture in which others feel able to take it further.

It also gives bystanders a range of tools to safely respond to potentially harmful situations such as sexual harassment in public places. That could be diffusing it, offering help to the victim or calling on others to help you out. It doesn’t have to be confrontational - a few calm words can make the difference. When we intervene skilfully, we encourage others to do so too, sparking positive culture change.

Who is the training aimed at?

The training is aimed at individuals over 18 years old and of any gender and background.

This pilot aims to deliver to organisations across Wales in all sectors.

You must live, study or work in Wales as your main job to attend this training.

You may like to attend as an individual who is interested to host a session in your organisation before end of March 2027.

The training is in English but is available in Welsh and resources/handout etc are available in Welsh.
