Radically Legal: Reclaiming Homes and Freedom in the Age of Finance
Radically Legal: Reclaiming Homes and Freedom in the Age of Finance
Need help?
Do we need a revolution to save our cities from the rampant housing crisis? Yes – but a sustainable revolution must be powered by the law. In her award-winning book Radically Legal: Berlin Constitutes the Future Joanna Kusiak takes the case of the 2021 Berlin referendum, in which voters decided to expropriate more than 240,000 homes from corporate landlords into public ownership, leveraging a forgotten clause of the German Constitution. Will "radically legal" politics become a new path to deepen our democracies and renew the rule of law?
This Conversations at King’s explores how grassroots politics could work with the law to curb the power of corporate finance and protect our democracies from the rise of authoritarian populism. Nine Dots Prize-winning author Joanna Kusiak, a Junior Research Fellow at King's College, will be in conversation with King's Provost Gillian Tett to celebrate the launch of Radically Legal. Copies will be available for purchase during the drinks reception after the talk.
